CCNMTL is pleased to announce the first Junior Faculty Course Design Institute on Tuesday, September 1st, 2015 from 9am-5pm in 523 Butler Library.
CCNMTL is pleased to announce the first Junior Faculty Course Design Institute on Tuesday, September 1st, with an optional second day of workshops and one-on-one consultations on Wednesday, September 2nd. During this institute, junior faculty will explore effective teaching and learning strategies in a collaborative and supportive environment.
The institute is open to Columbia University instructors from all academic disciplines, but priority will be given to faculty from the Morningside campus with 1 – 3 years of teaching experience. Due to space and session restrictions, the Institute is limited to approximately 25 instructors.
The Institute’s workshops and activities will be facilitated by CCNMTL staff with contributions from senior faculty. The program will complement CCNMTL’s regularly scheduled workshop series—for Courseworks, EdBlogs, Wikis, and Mediathread—that will be announced later in August to prepare for the Fall semester. The agenda for both days will explore:
- Articulating goals for a course or portion of a course
- Approaches to teaching that emphasize student engagement and place responsibility for learning on the students.
- Teaching with technology
- Grading and other assessments of student learning
